Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
Mongoose is the short answer to that question, the longer answer is this: My name is Rachael, otherwise known as Mongoose and I’m an artist who’s been making hairfalls for almost a year now. Everything on this site is handmade by me and I take great pride in my work. If you have any questions then feel free to e-mail me.
What are these ‘hairfall’ things and how do you wear them?
Hairfalls are a temporary way to change your hair without the time and expense of traditional hair extensions. They’re also great for those of us who can’t have ass-length UV green braids on a day-to-day basis but wish we could. All of my falls are mounted on coordinating parachute cord with a sliding cordstop so to wear them all you have to do is put your own hair up into a high bun, slip the loop over your hair and slide the stop till the fall is tight around the base of your bun.
So are these like the synthetic dreads I’ve seen on other sites?
No, synthetic dreads are made out of well, oddly enough, synthetic hair which has been backcombed and steamed into a dread-like shape. Everything on this site is made out of either wool or yarn.
Why use wool and yarn?
I use wool and yarn instead of synthetic hair because I like the colors and textures available with yarn and it looks great with loads of other materials like ribbon, beads and plastic. I prefer wool roving dreads over synthetic because they’re softer and more natural looking in my opinion (baring the funny colors, not much looks natural when it’s bright purple).
So what’s the deal with this base color thing?
A base color is the predominant color in your falls and generally matches your current hair color, which allows the falls to look more natural. Your base color doesn’t have to match your hair color, it all depends on how you want your falls to look. All of my falls have a black base even though my hair isn’t black, I normally just hide my real hair with a headband and wear the fall high up an my head.
How do I take care of my falls?
They’re pretty easy to take care of, just a spritz of Febreeze if they get smokey or with the yarn you can wash them carefully, as you would a fine knit.
I’m not really sure what I want, can you help me decide?
Sure, just shoot me an e-mail with some general ideas, like what you want them for (day-to-day, club, festival, etc.), an over all theme (fire, ice etc.), favorite color scheme, that sort of thing and we’ll talk and help you make sure you get exactly what you want.
What’s the deal with rush orders?
I can do them within reason, just e-mail me with the details but there will be a slight fee since I do rush orders outside of my normal work hours so I don’t delay anyone else’s order.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept payments through Paypal e-mail payments, all the neccessary information will be sent to you with your order invoice.
How does shipping work?
I use UPS ground shipping for all orders. E-mail me with your zip code for a quote on shipping.
